Friday Fictioneers – One Last Look

Eric turned to look at the old apartment building one last time. When the fire alarm sounded, the residents hesitated, believing this was another drill. Eric yelled ‘Fire!’ and that got them moving. Some lingered close to the front entrance. Unfortunate collateral damage, but nothing he could do. The mission was too important to give anyone warning.

Down the hill he raced, headed toward the highway where he would catch a ride with a passing trucker. To Miami, where he would lose himself in the faceless crowd.

He stopped, looked at his watch, and braced himself for the blast.

    Rent control. He is actually the owner of the property and he is losing money. His alternative is to blow the place up and collect the insurance money. I need another 100 words to fit all that in, however. 🙂
